The aggressive Republican Agenda, driven by Project 2025, is an authoritarian, white, race based, Christian Nationalist plan designed to destroy the middle class and concentrate power in the hands of a super wealthy few. The physical power arms of this movement are proceeding quickly to imprison large segments of society by the use of brutal force. The cultural/social agenda that defines the segments of society to be separated out is targeting immigrants, people of color and white people who support democratic, inclusive policies. The only way to successfully counter the aggressive Republican Agenda is for the Democratic Party to create a broad based coalition, unified in purpose and responding on multiple fronts. There is no time to loose.

OUR CURRENT PRESIDENT AND ADMINISTRATION

Imagine we’re flying a 747 ( AKA America), and we’re occupied. We can’t leave the cabin, our electrical and hydraulic systems have been successfully targeting. There is no way this plane is going to have a happy landing.  All we can do is to manage the inevitable to minimize the damage.

I read about a political scientist who examined nine different indicators of Authoritarian Rule, and the answer he came up with was, “Close enough for government work.” Currently, the USA is not completely under Authoritarian Rule but a tipping point is approaching. No one saw how quickly this transformation could happen.

Worse, an econometric analysis by JP Morgan Chase indicates that inflation will be an estimated 11% by October, due to government policies.

The good news is, we’re on a white-water rafting trip. The bad news is, we are in the rapids and we are approaching a waterfall .

SCENARIOS

Worst case: Current government policies and military buildup are not counteracted and the 2026 national elections are canceled.

Best case: The President is forced to resigns in the wake of multiple scandals. MAGA loses its mojo. The Vice President who is despised by everyone, is largely left without support, and the Republican Party breaks up into dysfunctional factions, allowing for Republican to vote with Democrats to pass legislation saving democracy.

BOTTOM LINE: The next two years will be filled with mayhem of all varieties, weakening the economy, the rule of law and the existence of democracy.

The biggest threat to national security now is right wing extremism. It will be responsible for 90% of the mayhem the US will be facing in the coming years. Democratic politicians and activists, private citizens, independent republicans, local and state law enforcement need to start monitoring and taking measures to counter all active extremists . The FBI cannot be depend upon at this point.

Historical Precedents 

Gene Sharp Is a Harvard professor, author of the book FROM DICTATORSHIP TO DEMOCRACY. This book has been applied by the CIA overseas many times. The most recent and notable country destabilized was Ukraine. From 2012 to 2014, it went from a colony of Russia to what it is today.

The book has approximately 130 proven ways to destabilize authoritarian regimes.  The ultimate goal is a nonviolent revolution for regime change, but inevitably, there will be violence incidents in the process.

Given the imminent unrest facing the US, it’s just a matter of time before Sharp’s work is implemented. The most likely group to start this is within the labor movement.

One of the seeds of the Occupy movement was Gene Sharp, where the methods that he and others used were aggressive but largely peacefully. Unfortunately, the prospect of state-sponsored violence will very likely activate every part of the handbook.

Congress is extremely limited in its ability to control the situation.

Democrats need to start developing a broad array of left-progressive legislation. in every Congressional committee. Since Ronald Reagan, we’ve had death by a thousand cuts. What we need is – health by a thousand stitches. We need to craft legislation that will provide left social democracy.

NY Times or Washington Post needs to do investigative reporting on the role that the National Endowment for Democracy and the Republican Institute played in effecting the Orange Revolution in Ukraine. This can be a case study for a Red, White, & Blue Revolution.

WHY DID WE LOSE 2 OUT OF 3 ELECTIONS THE REPUBLICANS?

The answer is that Democrats failed to motivate huge segments of the voting population.  It wasn’t just that MAGA activated those who historically, have been least likely to vote. It was, also, because Democrats failed to energize voters on the left.

The old saying is: When you give the voters a choice between voting for a false Republican and a real Republican – the real Republican will win every time.

With proper support, one inspired individual, going door to door and being active in local community organizations, can deliver 300 votes like clockwork in every election. In 2024, it was only possible to deliver delivered 100 votes by this method. Why? Because huge chunks of party infrastructure were missing. There were no canvassers on the street or phones. Democratic activists failed to motivate potential voters.

Is it any wonder why the Democratic Party has alienated its base? All we ever do is to ask for more money in every letter, every email sent out. We do nothing in Congress, and we appear to only care about people on Election Day.

And over time, this cycle has intensified – with more and more voter alienation.

There’s a lopsided weighting between Republicans and Democrats. Although we have the Sanders/AOC wing – it doesn’t match the hardcore right wing extremists resident in the Republican Party. This rightward weighting explains many of the things that have happened in 2025.

WHAT IS TO BE DONE?

All factions of the democratic party needs to be developed and under the party’s guidance. Everyone need to focus on taking every Republicans out of office.

Elected Democrats need to take a more hands on monitoring of local party offices to insure their viability. This explains the strength of organizations like the Chicago Democratic machine.

A change in party culture needs to be developed that is more tolerant of left insurgent challengers. Incumbents should be in touch with their districts and be confident in their ability to win elections. Many more AOCs will improve the party as a whole.

COUNTERFORCE

A vehicle designed to move a significant segment of the  Democratic Party into countering Republican Extremism with immediately.

Party activists need to fully participate in every protest -- from now until November 2026.  Personal relations need to be forged between the huge circle of activists on the left, and the tiny circle of party regulars on the far-right end of the left political spectrum.

MAGA voters are now 8% to 12% persuadable. This number will increase as the Epstein saga unfolds and as bullying federal thugs increasingly crowd our neighborhoods.

Instead of circles on the left and right sides of the page, DAF activists need to go to where the protesters are to form a Venn diagram.  Party activists and protesters can be in a common space. And in return, we’ll have access to the growing numbers in every age group that can help us win in the primary and general elections.

And ultimately, this is how we’ll defeat autocracy in America.

CONTAINMENT

Too often, the worst thing that can happen is when leftists run their own candidates against establishment Democrats in primaries. For this reason, the focus needs to be concentrate on eliminating every Republican from elected office. Developing strong relations, and recruiting activists should be Job #1 for every protest demonstration. Large banners that with tables and booths of recruiters need to be put in place.

ULTIMATE GOAL

Ideally, this can start out small at the bottom. But it needs to be a national movement – operational in 3200 counties across the USA. And it needs to be done as quickly as possible.

REBRANDING: Marketing is adding 2% pizzazz, and leaving 98% alone. It’s what transformed Blue Ribbon Sports Group into Nike. DAF is that vehicle. Take what works. Add some zest, and make people focus on the new. Meanwhile, the Ds need to concentrate on doing what they do the best in DC.

Rebranding represents something of a Trojan horse tactic. An over-saturation of fundraising requests alienates a huge percentage of the voting population. By focusing on potentially radical left campaign issues voter attention can be focused on issues like ICE instead of more mundane issues of daily governance.

IMPLEMENTATION (Lane County, OR case studies)

Currently West Lane and Springfield Lane County Commission seats are seen as unwindable. Candidates need to be tailored to each district.

WEST LANE: There is a candidate that can win West Lane. He is a peace activist who’s been arrested 76 times at peace and civil rights demonstrations. He moved here from North Carolina several years ago, and lives in Elmira, the center of the district.  He’s associated with the Oregon Country Fair, and thus has access to a potential base of 300 volunteers. He is one of them. Florence is on the ocean, and is a progressive hotbed. A large cadre of activists drawn from protesters can flood Bethel-Danebo, River Road, Santa Clara, and West Eugene. This is how we win. He wants to introduce left leaning resolutions if he were to serve on the Board of County Commissioners, and I think that controversy will attract voters to him.

SPRINGFIELD: There is no candidate on the horizon here. Instead, there is a large Hispanic-Latino community that’s been ignored forever by white establishment Democrats. As such, they represent an army of new voters than can appear from out of nowhere – just as MAGA voters got activated to elect Trump. A Latino-Hispanic activist can run and win on a platform of Anti ICE, Anti migra.

The first step is to organize a quiet but massive voter registration drives for every US citizen with a Hispanic surname. At the same time, work needs to be done to talent scout for the candidate who can fit the bill.

It is important that Spanish language voter material be developed for this target market.

THE LANE COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY

Lately, Democratic Party of Lane County has statistically under-performed other Democratic strongholds in Oregon. A Democratic Party Official has privately expressed concerns about the poor performance of the Democratic Party of Lane County.  Worse yet, geographically, with 10% of the population – Lane County represents the fulcrum of victory or defeat statewide. The Democratic minority on the Lane County Board is symptomatic of our weakness. And it can endanger Democratic prospects for the entire state in 2026.

One recent poll of voter sentiment nationally shows only a 50-50 chance of obtaining a majority vote in the national elections. There is no way we can assume that Democrats will win in a landslide in November, 2026 – even under the most optimistic scenarios.

The current Democratic Party of Lane County leadership is unwilling to make any move whatsoever towards making cause with the common cause we share with No Kings and other protesters on the left..

Similar dynamics are operational all over the country. How else can we explain the dismal performance of the party in 2016 and 2024?  Electoral College results indicate that this trend prevails in Democratic Party nationally.

THIS IS A FOUR ALARM FIRE WARNING TO ALL DEMOCRATS!

We need to more closely monitor the ongoing workings of our party committees. We need to inspire the to take action immedialely  to insure that we have the most powerful force possible for the to meet the challenges we are all going to face in 2026.

The above statement is an edit of a passionate alarm call written by a wonderful, long term Republican strategist and activist. Words of anger, slogans, political systems labeling and the trains of thought that tend to distract from the focus of the reader have been tempered.
